Yuletide Safety: Ogun Traffic Corps Warns Motorists - Drive Safe! (2026)

As the festive season approaches, a critical warning has emerged from the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), urging drivers to refrain from reckless and disorganized driving behaviors that could lead to tragic road accidents.

Mr. Adekunle Ajibade, the South-West Zonal Commander of TRACE, shared this important message during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ota on Monday. He emphasized the necessity of this advice, reminding everyone that "life has no duplicate,” which underscores the value of every individual’s safety.

Ajibade highlighted the importance of rest for motorists, pointing out that driving when fatigued can be extremely hazardous. "We strongly encourage travelers to find a safe place to take a break if they feel tired," he advised, stressing that such simple actions can significantly reduce the risk of accidents.

In addition to prioritizing rest, he urged drivers to ensure that their vehicles are in good working order, particularly the braking systems, and to adhere to speed limits. "Speed kills," he noted, advocating for a cautious approach behind the wheel.

Moreover, Ajibade called on all drivers to follow traffic laws and regulations diligently during this busy time, especially to avoid the dangers of drunk driving, which can lead to preventable fatalities. He also requested cooperation from the public with TRACE personnel and other traffic management agencies to facilitate smooth traffic flow during the holidays.

This warning comes at a time when Nigeria typically sees a surge in road accidents during the yuletide season. The combination of increased vehicle activity, driver fatigue, excessive speeding, and reckless behavior often results in a troubling rise in crashes and casualties.

As we navigate this festive period, let’s prioritize safety on the roads. Have you ever experienced or witnessed a dangerous situation while driving? What measures do you take to ensure your safety during the holidays? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments!
