Yankees' Offseason Moves: Who's Next on the Signing List? (2026)

The New York Yankees are gearing up for spring training, but their lineup is still a puzzle in progress. With the re-signing of Cody Bellinger and Trent Grisham, the team has made some moves, but General Manager Brian Cashman is far from done.

The Search for a Right-Handed Power Hitter

Cashman is on the hunt for an outfielder, preferably a right-handed batter, to bolster the team's offensive capabilities. The goal is to find a player who can excel in left field against southpaw starters, with Bellinger shifting to center and Grisham providing depth from the bench.

But here's where it gets tricky: the market is slim pickings.

Limited Options, Big Decisions

Joel Sherman of the New York Post highlights the challenge, noting that right-handed outfielders with a proven track record against left-handed pitching, like Austin Hays and Rob Refsnyder, have already signed elsewhere. The Yankees have explored reuniting with Austin Slater or even considering Randal Grichuk, but both options have their drawbacks.

Slater is off the table, having signed with the Chicago White Sox. As for Grichuk, his production dipped in 2025, especially against left-handed pitching.

"In 498 plate appearances vs. lefties from 2022-24, Grichuk was a force, boasting a .940 OPS. But last year, his OPS against lefties dropped to .703 in 183 plate appearances," Sherman writes.

Grichuk, a 12-year MLB veteran, has played for several teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, and more recently, the Kansas City Royals.

Pressure Mounts on Young Talent

If the Yankees decide to stick with their current roster, it could mean increased pressure on Jasson Dominguez, a natural right-handed hitter who struggled against left-handed pitching last season. Many fans are eager to see the club promote slugging outfield prospect Spencer Jones, but his left-handed bat wouldn't provide the balance the team seeks.

Former Yankees slugger Miguel Andujar, with experience in the outfield and at third base, could have been an intriguing option, but he's now signed with the San Diego Padres.

The Clock is Ticking

Cashman's chances of landing a game-changing outfielder are dwindling, and time is running out. The Yankees are heading to Florida next week with a roster that closely resembles the one that fell short in the 2025 American League Division Series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Will the Yankees make a late splash in the market, or will they roll with what they have? The upcoming season promises to be an exciting one, and Yankees fans will be watching closely.
