Job Losses in the US Hit a 17-Month Low, Wrapping Up 2025 with a Surprising Twist

According to Challenger's early report, job cuts in December 2025 took a significant dip, almost halving the number from the previous month. With 35,553 job losses, it's a 50% decrease from November's 71,321 layoffs and an 8% improvement from December 2024.
But here's the intriguing part: this is the lowest monthly job cut figure since July 2024 and the best December since 2023. It's a rare occurrence, as 2025 only saw four months with fewer job cuts than the same period in 2024.
