The kidnapping, which occurred last month at St Mary's Catholic school in Papiri, saw over 250 students and 12 staff members taken. This incident is just one in a series of mass abductions that have deeply shaken the country.
But here's where it gets controversial... Details surrounding the children's release remain shrouded in uncertainty. Questions linger: Was it a result of negotiations, or a forceful intervention? Was a ransom paid? Governor Abdullahi Sule of neighboring Nasarawa state mentioned the federal government's significant role in securing their freedom, adding that the specifics of the operation couldn't be disclosed for security reasons.

The St Mary's attack on November 21st followed closely on the heels of other mass kidnappings. On November 18th, an attack on the Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara state resulted in two fatalities and the abduction of 38 individuals. The day before, 25 Muslim students were taken from the Government Girls' Secondary School in Kebbi state, with two lives lost. Thankfully, all those kidnapped in Kwara and Kebbi have since been released.
Last week also witnessed at least 20 people abducted in two separate attacks. One targeted a newly established church in central Kogi state, where a pastor, his wife, and some worshippers were taken. The other occurred in Sokoto state, predominantly Muslim, where a bride and her bridesmaids were among those kidnapped.
And this is the part most people miss... The perpetrators of these kidnappings remain largely unidentified. While most analysts point to criminal gangs seeking ransom payments, a presidential spokesman has suggested the involvement of jihadist groups.
