Dr. Helden faced the challenge of confirming these species as new discoveries, and his meticulous fieldwork paid off. All seven species were found in the high-altitude rainforests of Uganda's Kibale National Park, a testament to the diversity of life in this region.
"Leafhoppers are truly fascinating creatures," says Dr. Helden. "While some may consider them pests, they play a vital role in our ecosystems. They provide food for birds and other insects, and their presence indicates a healthy environment."

"I've named six of these leafhoppers in Greek, reflecting their unique features or the locations they were found. One species, Batracomorphus ruthae, holds a special place in my heart. It's named after my mother, Ruth, who passed away in 2022. She was a scientist herself and encouraged my passion for science from a young age. Naming a species after her is a way of honoring her memory and the impact she had on my life."
