K. M. Khushboo's 'Everything I Waited to Forget' is a captivating exploration of impermanence and self-discovery. Through her art, Khushboo delves into the depths of philosophical, spiritual, and religious ideas, finding inspiration in ancient scriptures and poetry. Her solo art show, held at Gurugram's Art Incept, showcases her profound reflections on life, death, and transformation. The title itself is a powerful statement, reflecting Khushboo's journey of letting go and finding relief in the process of creation. The artist shares, 'It's not about forgetting or erasing, but about changing the weight—about giving shape to something invisible.'
Khushboo's artistic journey began in her childhood, where painting classes and art camps fueled her passion. She pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Banaras Hindu University and later a Master's degree in Printmaking from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. Her printmaking techniques, including etching, drypoint, and woodcut, have become a means of introspection. Initially, she worked with figurative forms, focusing on portraits and still life, but her time in Baroda marked a shift. She explains, 'The focus shifted to concepts—what your work means, what message you want to convey. I found myself stuck, questioning my purpose.' This led her to center her art around herself, translating her thoughts into her chosen mediums.
The printmaking process, with its lengthy and intricate nature, holds a special significance for Khushboo. She describes it as a meditative practice, teaching her the value of patience and curiosity. It's a delicate balance between control and surprise, where the final print can reveal unexpected insights. 'The process is time-consuming, but it teaches you the weight of things,' she says. 'It's a journey of learning and growth.'
'Everything I Waited to Forget' is on display at Art Incept, South Point Mall, Sector 53, Gurugram, until November 24. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Khushboo's profound exploration of self and impermanence.
