The Christmas spirit has arrived early in a Warwickshire village as its famed annual festive statue makeover makes a triumphant return.
The Lord John Scott statue in Dunchurch undergoes a covert seasonal dressing each year, a tradition that has endured for many decades.
Who wraps the statue in holiday finery remains the village’s best-kept secret, shrouded in lively conjecture by locals.
This year, the statue has been reimagined as Chase, the German Shepherd from the beloved children’s TV show Paw Patrol, whose catchphrase is “Chase is on the case.” A small cardboard sign on the plinth proclaims: “Chase is on the Christmas Case.”
Amber Cumming, a local resident, expressed particular delight because Paw Patrol is her three-year-old son’s favorite program.
“As Christmas draws nearer, the anticipation grows, and the reveal never falls short,” she remarked. “Seeing the dressed-up statue unites the community, and it’s heartwarming to witness both children and adults react with genuine excitement.”
In recent years, the sculpture has taken on a variety of other personas, transforming into Bluey, Pinocchio, Pingu, and Peppa Pig. It also carried a World War II soldier’s image in May to commemorate Victory in Europe Day.
