Dallas Stars Dominate Edmonton Oilers: 8-3 Victory Recap | NHL 2025 (2025)

Ouch! Did you see what happened to the Edmonton Oilers on November 25, 2025? It was a rough night as they suffered a crushing 8-3 defeat at the hands of the Dallas Stars. The Stars came out blazing, establishing an early lead that the Oilers simply couldn't recover from.

Nathan Bastian had a stellar performance, netting two goals for the Stars. Wyatt Johnston also shone brightly, contributing a goal and a whopping three assists. The Stars' offensive firepower was on full display right from the get-go, as they stormed to a commanding four-goal advantage in the first period alone. This early dominance set the tone for the rest of the game, leaving the Oilers reeling.

But here's where it gets controversial... Were the Oilers simply outmatched, or did some questionable coaching decisions contribute to their downfall? Let’s dig deeper.

Jason Robertson added a goal and two assists to the Stars' tally, while Jamie Benn and Sam Steel each chipped in with a goal and an assist. Roope Hintz and Justin Hryckowian also found the back of the net, rounding out the Stars' impressive offensive showing. The Stars have been on a roll lately, boasting a 7-1-1 record in their last nine games. They're clearly a team to be reckoned with right now.

Speaking of Jamie Benn, this game was particularly special for him. He achieved a significant milestone, scoring his 400th career goal! This accomplishment places him in elite company, as he becomes only the second player in the Stars' franchise history to reach this mark, joining the legendary Mike Modano, who holds the record with 557 goals. What a moment for Benn and the Stars organization!

On the Oilers' side, Connor Clattenburg, Evan Bouchard, and Jack Roslovic managed to score goals, but their efforts were ultimately overshadowed by the Stars' dominant performance. The Oilers have been struggling recently, losing four of their last five games. They need to find a way to turn things around quickly if they want to stay competitive.

In goal, Jake Oettinger had a solid night for Dallas, making 22 saves. For the Oilers, Stuart Skinner had a night to forget. He allowed four goals on only eight shots in the first period, leading to his replacement by Calvin Pickard at the start of the second. Pickard fared better, stopping 18 shots for the remainder of the game, but the damage had already been done. And this is the part most people miss... Goaltending can make or break a team, and Skinner's early struggles really put the Oilers behind the eight ball.

The Stars were without Mikko Rantanen for this game, as he was serving a one-game suspension. Rantanen was ejected for boarding in a previous game against Calgary, marking his second boarding penalty in a week. Despite his absence, Rantanen still leads the league in power-play points with 15. His absence definitely impacted the Stars, but they were still able to pull off the win.

A bright spot for the Oilers was Connor Clattenburg scoring his first NHL goal in only his second NHL game. Clattenburg was drafted by the Oilers in the fifth round of the 2024 NHL draft. This is something for Oilers fans to get excited about.

Wyatt Johnston's second assist of the game on the Stars’ fourth goal was also a milestone for him, bringing him to 100 career assists, to go along with his 100 career goals, which he reached earlier in the month on Nov. 13. It's always exciting to see young players reach these milestones!

Looking ahead, the Stars will wrap up their four-game road trip with a game against Seattle on Wednesday. The Oilers will also be visiting Seattle, but not until Saturday.

So, what do you think? Was this a case of the Stars simply being the better team, or did the Oilers contribute to their own demise? Could a different approach from the Oilers' coaching staff have changed the outcome? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
