This accomplishment places him in elite company, as he becomes only the second player in the Stars' franchise history to reach this mark, joining the legendary Mike Modano, who holds the record with 557 goals. What a moment for Benn and the Stars organization!
On the Oilers' side, Connor Clattenburg, Evan Bouchard, and Jack Roslovic managed to score goals, but their efforts were ultimately overshadowed by the Stars' dominant performance. The Oilers have been struggling recently, losing four of their last five games. They need to find a way to turn things around quickly if they want to stay competitive.
In goal, Jake Oettinger had a solid night for Dallas, making 22 saves. For the Oilers, Stuart Skinner had a night to forget. He allowed four goals on only eight shots in the first period, leading to his replacement by Calvin Pickard at the start of the second. Rantanen was ejected for boarding in a previous game against Calgary, marking his second boarding penalty in a week. Despite his absence, Rantanen still leads the league in power-play points with 15. His absence definitely impacted the Stars, but they were still able to pull off the win.
A bright spot for the Oilers was Connor Clattenburg scoring his first NHL goal in only his second NHL game. Clattenburg was drafted by the Oilers in the fifth round of the 2024 NHL draft. This is something for Oilers fans to get excited about.
Wyatt Johnston's second assist of the game on the Stars’ fourth goal was also a milestone for him, bringing him to 100 career assists, to go along with his 100 career goals, which he reached earlier in the month on Nov. 13. It's always exciting to see young players reach these milestones!
Looking ahead, the Stars will wrap up their four-game road trip with a game against Seattle on Wednesday. The Oilers will also be visiting Seattle, but not until Saturday.
